The challenges
Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) is a network of over 150 schools, serving a community of more than 71,000 students and supported by a dedicated staff of 10,000 members. Their commitment to providing exceptional education extends beyond the classroom and includes programs such as the SCS athletics program, which engages over 4,000 students in weekly athletic competitions throughout the network, every week.
To enhance the inter-school sports opportunities available to students and improve central oversight across their network of schools’ athletics programs, SCS collaborated with Qualtrics and Act XM. This partnership aimed to address two critical challenges.
The first challenge was the decentralised administration of these programs, resulting in inconsistent approaches and outcomes across the schools in the network.
The second challenge involved SCS’s traditional reporting methods, which were largely manual and fragmented. This cumbersome process hindered effective risk assessment and analysis of game outcomes.
The solution
Collaborating with SCS, we designed and launched a customised web application, enhancing the growth opportunities of their sports program.
Our collaboration with SCS resulted in the development and launch of a tailored mobile web application. This innovative mobile solution has transformed the way competitions involving Sydney Catholic Schools’ athletes are managed.
Designed with user-friendliness in mind, the app now allows officials to effortlessly navigate through a pre-match checklist on their mobile devices, ensuring the establishment of safe competition environments while mitigating liability risks. By creating a digital record of the pre-event risk assessment, school officials can seamlessly maintain an accurate and secure record of their compliance efforts.
Furthermore, our app goes beyond pre-match procedures. It simplifies the process of reporting post-match results by implementing a streamlined two-step authentication system. Teachers from participating schools can swiftly enter the competition data, which is then verified and approved by the teacher from the opposing school. As a result, competition results are promptly and reliably recorded, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual reporting.
The impact
With this innovative web application, SCS has improved athlete safety, reduced liability, and increased operational efficiency. The application enables SCS to gather and analyse data on athlete safety, helping them proactively address potential risks and maintain a safe environment.
The web application also provides SCS with valuable feedback and insights by collecting data on student participation and engagement. This allows SCS to make informed decisions about sports offerings, resource allocation, and program creation, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for athletes and students.
Furthermore, the streamlined data capturing and reporting facilitated by the web application has enabled SCS to host a significantly higher number of competitions. The application simplifies the process of collecting and analysing competition data, allowing SCS to efficiently manage and organise multiple events. This increased capacity has opened more opportunities for students to participate in a wider range of competitions.
